This worksheet has a very simplified view of a kidney showing the cortex, renal pyramids, renal artery and vein, renal pelvis, and ureter. Students can practice labeling the structures and color coding the diagram.
This worksheet was designed for a high school anatomy and physiology class and complements two other labeling and coloring worksheets: urinary system and nephron.
Notes, slides, and other resources can be found on the class website for anatomy and physiology
The kidneys are vital organs that perform several important functions in the body. The kidneys receive approximately one-fifth of the blood pumped by the heart, filtering about a half cup of blood every minute. They remove waste products, excess water, and electrolytes from the blood to form urine.
The filtered waste and excess fluid form urine, which flows from the kidneys to the bladder through two thin tubes called ureters. The bladder stores urine until it is eliminated from the body through the urethra
