This is a a revised version of the Scientific Method in Action worksheet where there is a greater focus on the chickens who became sick due to a vitamin deficiency. The case centers on an 1887 study where chickens became sick. The scientist conducted an experiment with chicken feed where he determined they were missing an essential vitamin, B1.
The assignment is also optimized for use with distance learning. Students can write their answers in the boxes and submit over Google Classroom or other LMS.
I have the top row names set to include 4 names and this worksheet is intended to be completed in small groups. I use Zoom or Google Meet breakout groups. One student in the group shares their screen and fills in the answers as they discuss.
If you download the Google doc you can alter it for your own classes. (Copy the file to your own drive to edit.)
Depending on the age and skillset of your class, you may need to provide them additional instructions on how to share screens. Alternately, the group can share and edit one document. This gets a little more complicated if you are trying to keep the document in small groups. This document can also be printed for use in class either as a group assignment or individual work.
I designed this version for remote learning during the 2020 pandemic. It is based on the original Scientific Method in Action document. I still keep virtual assignments on file for students who may be absent the day we do the activity.
