Muscles of the Chest:

  1. Pectoralis Major:

    • Location: Covers the upper part of the chest.
    • Function: Responsible for the movement of the shoulder joint, particularly the adduction (bringing the arm toward the midline of the body) and medial rotation of the arm.

  2. Pectoralis Minor:
    • Location: Located beneath the pectoralis major.
    • Function: Stabilizes the scapula (shoulder blade) and assists in the movement of the shoulder.

  3. Serratus Anterior:
    • Location: Lies on the side of the chest.
    • Function: Stabilizes the scapula and assists in the rotation of the scapula.

Muscles of the Abdomen:

  1. Rectus Abdominis:

    • Location: Runs vertically along the front of the abdomen.
    • Function: Responsible for flexing the lumbar spine (bringing the chest towards the pelvis), and it plays a role in stabilizing the pelvis during movements.

  2. External Oblique:
    • Location: Forms the outer layer of the lateral abdominal wall.
    • Function: Allows for trunk rotation and lateral flexion, also contributes to abdominal compression.

  3. Internal Oblique:
    • Location: Lies beneath the external oblique, running at right angles to it.
    • Function: Assists in trunk rotation and lateral flexion, and it also contributes to abdominal compression.

  4. Transversus Abdominis:
    • Location: The deepest layer of the abdominal muscles.
    • Function: Acts as a stabilizing muscle, providing support to the internal organs and helping to compress the abdominal contents.
