Muscles of the Back
- Trapezius: This large, kite-shaped muscle covers the upper back and extends down the spine to the mid-back. It helps in moving and stabilizing the shoulder blades.
- Latissimus dorsi: The "lats" are large, fan-shaped muscles that extend from the mid to lower back to the upper arm. They assist in arm movements and play a role in shoulder stability.
- Rhomboids (major and minor): These muscles are located between the shoulder blades and help retract and stabilize the scapulae (shoulder blades).
- Levator scapulae: This muscle elevates the scapula and supports the movement of the neck.
- Supraspinatus and Infraspinatus: Part of the rotator cuff, stabilizes the shoulder joint
- Splenius capitis: Extends from vertebrae to base of the skull, extension of the head and neck
